The Motown sound has come to define the American musical zeitgeist from the 1960s onwards. Borrowing its name from the host city of Detroit that was nicknamed Motor-Town or Motown due to the concentration auto manufacturing entities, the eponymous sound was courtesy the likes of the Miracles, The Marvelletes , The Supremes, The Temptations and the Four Tops. Their legacy has helped them clinched numerous awards including a trifecta of Grammys as well as a nomination for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance in 2007.
