The Stage Is Set for Super Bowl XLIX
With the completion of the conference championship games over the weekend, we finally have the names of the two teams who will be playing for the biggest prize in football. The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots will step onto the turf of the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale with the knowledge that they are the best two teams in the country right now.
The Seahawks could become the first team in over a decade to defend the title; interestingly the last team to have achieved that feat, will be their opponents in the final. The Patriots won back to back Super Bowls in 2004 and 2005.
Both the teams had markedly different Conference Championship games. The Patriots easily dispatched the Colts 45-7 to progress to Super Bowl XLIX. But the Seahawks had to battle it out till the end against the Green Bay packers to grab a dramatic 28-22 overtime victory. The champions’ mettle was tested and they proved up to the task, staging an incredible comeback after trailing 16-0 at half time. They scored two touchdowns in a minute to get back in the game, before scoring a thirty five yard touchdown in overtime to clinch the NFC title.
The stage is now set for Super Bowl XLIX. The Seahawks are still favored to win the game, but the odds are not stacked that heavily in their favor. The Patriots will be making their sixth Super Bowl appearance in fourteen years and their first since 2012, so Seahawks should expect another really tough game.
