Soccer Fever Running High as Fans Await The International Champions Cup 2015 Tournament

May 8, 2015

Since its first edition in 2013, the International Champions Cup 2015 has become one of the most prestigious friendly tournaments in world soccer. The tournament features some of the biggest club teams in the world, as they gather in the US for their preseason preparations.

This year’s tournament will feature last year’s winner, Manchester United, along with European soccer royalty in the form of FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germaine, Chelsea FC, ACF Fiorentina and FC Porto. Teams from the MLS will include the NY Red Bulls, LA Galaxy and the San Jose Sharks. Club America from Mexico will complete the CONCACAF contingent.

The tournament’s appeal can be judged by the massive record setting attendance at last year’s game between Manchester United and Real Madrid. 109,318 ardent fans turned out to support their favorite teams at The Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The record will probably not be broken again this year since no venue is big enough to seat that many people, but huge crowds are still expected to turn up for the games. As a consequence, the secondary ticket market has reacted accordingly.

The most expensive game, in terms of average ticket price, is between Chelsea FC and NY Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena. The average ticket price for the game is $373.83. The least expensive average ticket price is for the game between the San Jose Earth Quakes and Club America, for which the average ticket price is $102.69.
