Darius Rucker Brings Flavor to “Southern Style Tour” – Leads All-Star Lineup
Going country has proved to be good for the superstar Darius Rucker. Ever since he made the switch from rock and R&B, the artist has produced six number one singles and scored four hit albums. The phenomenal crooner and guitarist has now graduated to headliner status and is selling out arenas on his “Southern Style Tour”. The extravagant trek started in May from New Jersey and initially includes 30 stops. Joining him on the tour are his three favorite newcomers – Brett Eldredge, Brothers Osborne, A Thousand Horses.
Rucker is touring in support of his fourth studio album “Southern Style”, which has been praised as an easygoing and warm effort. Featuring low sung ballads and done-home anthems, Darius Rucker shines through as a reborn rock star. The Grammy winning artist along with his opening acts has been packing venues on the tour so far. Capacity crowd has been recorded in most of his concerts and same is being expected for his upcoming shows as well. I don’t care if the artist is fitlhy rich or starving poor. I buy good music.I agree with DAVID D.’s arguments. Music has become simply a public good. It is non excludable and non rival in consumption. As long as people weren’t forced to pay a price for music and with plenty of methods to downloading music, downloading was the best option.But now the tables are turning and soon I think downloading albums will be nearly impossible. Its good to know that Amazon can help a brotha keep bread in his pocket when he has to start buying albums again.But just for comment sake. When the historians write about this chapter on hip-hop, we as a community are going to be given a fail. I for one think that the internet allowed the hip-hop community to fight back and stop the cultural genocide by the hands of corporations. We could now support artistic artist more better than we could before. But instead we squander the opportunity to do so. I concede that some websites have dedicate themselves to supporting real hip hop, but not enough to solve hip hops problems.Listeners download albums without paying which hurt the financial prospectives of hip hop artist. Because of this underground acts have less of a motive to spend more energy in creating music and mainstream artist starting creating music for those listeners that still buy music. The artist instead of actually coming together in a united front to close the gaping wound that is album downloads, foster a culture of desensitization to music. Artist flood the internet with subpar albums to bring more awareness to their brand. With such ill-quality of music and continue downloading of albums, the past decade has not been a bright one for hip-hop.*I concede that there may be a few exceptions to my rant above. But I would argue that such exceptions are not enough to measure in any significant percentage to consider my point otherwise.
