3 Most Important Baltimore Ravens Players for the 2017-18 season

The last few seasons have been somewhat of a roller coaster of a ride for the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens won their second Super Bowl in 2012 and then failed to make it to the postseason in 2013. They went to the playoffs once again in 2014 but have failed to make it to that stage of the season since.

In 2016, the Ravens went 8-8 which was a improvement on the 5-11 record they put up a season earlier. Now the Ravens have got it all to do if they are to make it to the top once again. A few players will be important for them and here are the 3 we think who will have to really step up and be counted if the Ravens are to make an impact in the 2017-2018 season.

Joe Flacco

Joe Flacco has been very important to the Baltimore Ravens since joining them. He burst onto the NFL landscape in 2008 and since then, the Ravens have made it to the AFC Championship on three occasions and even won Super Bowl XLVII. He was instrumental in helping the Ravens reach the top in 2012 as Flacco’s stats were extremely good that year, especially in the playoffs.

Joe Flacco’s Super Bowl stats were very impressive too. He completed twenty two of this thirty three passes that amounted to two hundred and eighty seven yards. The Ravens scored three touchdowns in the first half. Yes, the Ravens have not been able to reach those heights since but it is important to note that there have been a lot of changes to the roster. More importantly, that was the last Ravens season with Ed Reed and Ray Lewis.

The good news for Ravens fans is that the injury update on Joe Flacco is positive. He has returned to training after missing the preseason almost completely due to a back injury. Flacco’s form has suffered of late but that is down to different reasons. If he manages to hit his stride this year and stays clear of any injuries, then there won’t be too many important players than him for the Baltimore Ravens.

Terrell Suggs

Terrell Suggs joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2003 and has been a very important part of the roster ever since. He has won the Super Bowl and is now a six time Pro Bowler as well. Suggs has a contract till 2018 and he has been a regular feature in the Ravens offseason schedule. He does not have a lot of years ahead of him as a professional player and he knows that better than anyone.

He will soon turn 35 but his experience will be invaluable in the dressing room. Terrell Suggs has taken up the role of a mentor in the dressing room and his experience of winning things will be invaluable for the youngsters. Titles might be won on the field but the base for that is set in the dressing room. Suggs knows all about that and his importance in the dressing room will be absolutely vital.

Suggs can however still do a more than decent job for the Ravens on the field though and that will come in handy too. His stats from last season prove that. Terrell Suggs did not take part in just one game. He played in fifteen games last term and notched up thirty five tackles. He also racked up four passes and enforced three forced fumbles. He will start the latest season as the team’s first choice linebacker and combine that with what he can do for the youngsters, it is a combination that will be very important for the Ravens this season.

Breshad Perriman

Breshad Perriman has been part of the Baltimore Ravens roster since 2015 and according to quite a few analysts he has the potential to take the Ravens offense to a whole new level. Breshad Perriman’s injury woes look to be over for the time being as he returned to practice earlier this month.

The Ravens know that Perriman can be one of the players to take the team forward and that is why they have stood by him and have given him time to develop. The wide receiver played sixteen games for the Ravens in 2016 and recorded thirty three receptions for four hundred and ninety nine yards. He also notched up sixty six in receiving targets.

When on song, Perriman showed what he could do last season and if he hits the levels everyone can see he can reach, then the Ravens will have a serious offensive force on their hands.
