Why the Cowboys have a great chance of making it to the Super Bowl LI
The Dallas Cowboys are on a roll. They began their campaign with a loss against the New York Giants but that setback galvanized the Cowboys. They went on to win their next encounter against the Washington Redskins and haven’t looked back since. The Cowboys are yet to taste defeat since their first game against the Giants.
They have raised the bar along the way and this is why the Dallas Cowboys have a great chance of making it to the Super Bowl LI now that they have the bit between their teeth. Someone will have to play out of their skins to stop the Cowboys from lifting their sixth Super Bowl title.
The Dallas Cowboys have plenty going for them so let us take a look at why they look good to make it to their first Super Bowl since 1995 when they beat the Steelers to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
The running game
The Dallas Cowboys will have to maintain their stellar running form if they are to go all the way to the Super Bowl LI this season. Ezekiel Elliot has been a key component in the Cowboys becoming the best running sides in the NFL this year. He has run for 1199 yards, the most by any player in the league. He has been immense this season and the Cowboys system is getting the best out of him too. He has matured as the season has gone on and is a very important part of the Cowboys juggernaut.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott’s performances have provided the spark that the Dallas Cowboys have been missing for a while now. The NFL Draft fourth pick was brought into the team to replace the injured Tony Romo. He has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and his stellar form has propelled the Cowboys to the NFL Summit. He will have to adapt as the season goes by because big tests will surely come as the season progresses. Teams will chalk out plans to stop him and he will have to be inventive to ensure he has answers to all the questions.
Looking after the ball
Protecting the ball is absolutely essential if the Dallas Cowboys want to reach the Super Bowl at the NRG Stadium this season. Since the year 2010, five of the six sides that have made it to the NFL’s showpiece game were among the top 5 best sides when it came to looking after the ball. This is how important it really is to look after the ball.
The Dallas Cowboys have been proficient in that regard this season. They have allowed only seven giveaways which puts them among the best in the league as things stand right now. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot have been very good at this. The latter has only one fumble against his name right now whereas Prescott has amassed over three hundred and eighty rushes and passes altogether. They will need to keep this up to reach the Super Bowl at the end of the season.
The offensive line
The Cowboys have one special offensive lineup and that has played a big part in Dak and Ezekiel having the kind of seasons dreams are made of. Yes, the two have been brilliant this year but they could not have done this without having arguably the most potent offensive lineup in the NFL today.
The likes of Tyron Smith, Ronald Leary, Travis Fredricks, Zack Martin and Doug Free have been on fire. The offensive lineup was built after a lot of careful planning. Patience was the key here because it took a few years to put all the pieces together. The wait was worth it as has been proven this season with the Cowboys rampaging their way to the playoffs once again.
Pressure
The Dallas Cowboys have handled the pressure quite well this season. After losing their first game against the Giants, they did not panic and turned their season around in spectacular fashion. With every game they win, the pressure mounts as expectations rise. The Cowboys have so far dealt with that aspect very well.
They have upped their game when it mattered, against strong rivals and have cruised through winnable games. They have not shown any signs of nerves till now and if they maintain their cool, then the Cowboys look a very good bet to reach Super Bowl 51 at the NRG Stadium this time around.
The Dallas Cowboys have the best record in the NFL and they are answering every challenge put in front of them. Their form has surprised quite a few people especially after the horrors of the last campaign when they went 4-12. It was a good wakeup call for everyone and the Cowboys have come out swinging this year.
It has been some ride and everyone connected with the Cowboys have enjoyed it. Now those same people will be hoping that their team goes all the way to the Super Bowl to cap off what will be an incredible ending to an unforgettable campaign.
