The Official “Official” World Cup 2014 Anthem – Shakira scores an early goal!
It was announced earlier this year that American artist Pitbull’s “We Are One (Ole Ola)” would be the official World Cup 2014 anthem. The song, featuring pop diva Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte, will debut before the World Cup, and will be performed live at the mega event’s opening ceremony by all three artists. Soccer’s governing body FIFA, along with recording giants Sony Music Entertainment, made the announcement in late January and it was all tied off.
Or so we thought…
There has been a twist in the plot. Columbian superstar Shakira, not to be out done, has released her own world cup song. The singer had the honor of singing the global-hit-official-anthem of the 2010 edition, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, and apparently feels she has the right to release an “official” world cup song every time.
The 37 year old pop star has released “La La La” to the world, her new “official” world cup song. However, there is nothing new or official about it. In this case, the song is a remake (or rather a reworded issue) of her song “Dare” from her new eponymous album, which was released on 21st March. And the official part…is well…unofficial, because clearly FIFA said that Pitbull …oh, you know what we mean.
According to the singer, “it’s an upbeat, Brazilian track” and that the lyrics “are personal”. We can’t comment on the personal lyrics part, but we have to agree the song is a catchy, upbeat number, with infectious grooves and a really catchy chorus.
It remains to be seen whether the song catches the imagination of the public, but “La La La” is certainly a fun song to listen to. Who knows, just like K’naan’s “Waving Flag” become the unofficial “official” anthem of the 2010 World Cup, Shakira’s latest effort could very well triumph over Pitbull’s “We Are One (Ole Ola)”.
But hey, it won’t still be the official “official” song.

Shakira’s song should be the OFFICIAL ANTHEM because her song is absolutely amazing more than Pitbull’s song!
