Super Bowl 52 Predictions: Will the Eagles upset the Patriots?
The New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles are the last two teams standing. These two sides will square-off against each other at the US Bank Stadium on February 4, 2018 to win the biggest prize in the sport, the Super Bowl. It promises to be a cracking game between two sides that will be writing their own respective piece of history by winning the big game.
If the New England Patriots manage to defend the title they won so spectacularly last season, they will move alongside the Pittsburgh Steelers as the teams with most Super Bowl wins (6). On the other hand, Super Bowl 52 also gives the Philadelphia Eagles the chance to open their Super Bowl account. They have been to the Super Bowl twice before but came up short on both occasions. Now, they can add a Super Bowl title to their name.
The Patriots are favorites to win but the Eagles have reached the US Bank Stadium by upsetting the odds all through the season. Will they be able to upset the odds once again and beat the Patriots or will the current Super Bowl champions add another Vince Lombardi Trophy to their collection? Let’s take a look at what is in store for us at Super Bowl 52.
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are the team to beat in the NFL right now and this all began when Tom Brady and Bill Belichick joined hands in 2000. They are still going as strong as ever. Whenever someone thinks that the Pats juggernaut’s time is over, they find a way to prove the doubters wrong.
Take a look at what they did to the Atlanta Falcons in last year’s Super Bowl. The Patriots were dead and buried but they mounted one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history to win their fifth Super Bowl. They were down against the Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game this season too but found a way to win, yet again. The Pats simply do not know when they are beaten.
Their ace in the sleeve will once again be Tom Brady. Brady has aged like fine wine and seems to get better with every season. He is 40 years old and is still playing like he was 30. In the game against the Jaguars, he was playing with an injured hand but still managed to push the Pats over the line. Brady has made a career out of breaking defenses and he is still doing it better than most in the league.
Then there is Danny Amendola, the wide receiver who has had a pretty good season so far. In the current postseason, he has recorded two touchdowns and notched up one hundred and ninety six yards. He is direct and Brady will look to hit him when the chance comes. For the Patriots to win Super Bowl 52, they will need to have Brady firing on all cylinders and come up with a plan to handle one of the meanest defenses in the NFL.
The Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are in Super Bowl for the first time since Super Bowl 39. The team that beat them that day? Yes, the New England Patriots. This Eagles side however looks the part. The Eagles defense is their biggest strength and they proved that once again against the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game.
The Vikings defense had been immense leading up to the game and they were top in both the points conceded and yards allowed in 2017. Then they met the Eagles who now only scored a touchdown against them but also took the ball thrice. Overall the Eagles have just conceded seventeen points in their two postseason clashes this term and now they will be up against the formidable Patriots.
The Philadelphia Eagles started the season with Carson Wentz as their QB and helped the franchise go 10-1. Then Wentz got injured and was replaced by Nick Foles who has done a more than decent job. Foles has been a bit of an enigma. When he fires, he looks a world beater. He notched up five hundred and ninety eight yards in the two postseason games. Now he has the chance to take the biggest scalp of them all, the New England Patriots at Super Bowl 52.
The Eagles will have to use their front seven to upset the Patriots game plan and by that we mean they will have to put pressure on Brady all day long. The Eagles will have to force Brady to rush his passes or make sure that he is not in sync with his receivers. If they fail to do that, it will be a long day at the office for them but the Eagles have shown already that they know how to keep the pressure on for long stretches.
Prediction Time
This is a clash of two different styles and that is what is so fascinating about Super Bowl 52. The game is too close to call and we do not seem to think that the Patriots are as big a favorites as a lot of people are making them out to be. Having said that, we do think they have the edge over the Eagles. They have been at this stage of the season more often than most teams and the big game temperament will be an advantage when they take the field against the Eagles.
The Patriots to win Super Bowl 52!
