Secondary ticket market trends for upcoming international soccer friendlies
It seems as though the US has a new found love for soccer. Especially after the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the sport has lifted off in the country. Apart from the MLS, several of the biggest clubs in the world now come to the US to take part in the International Champions Cup during preseason. Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Liverpool have all played in the US. So it comes as no surprise that several international team’s have elected to play in the US as well.
This year, the US will host a number of high profile soccer games and tournaments, the biggest of which is the GOLD Cup. Following the completion of the summer tournament, several team’s will play International Friendlies at US Stadiums.
Let us look at these games and observe secondary market ticket trends for those games. There are two US National Women’s team friendlies, two Men’s National team friendlies and two games featuring the Mexican National team.
Event Name & Location | Date | Tickets |

International Friendly: United States vs. Venezuela, Chase Stadium, tickets for 01/18 15:00:00.000 at Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale, FL | Sat Jan 18 2025 |
The Women’s team is hugely popular nowadays, having lifted the World Cup in Canada this year. However, it will still be a long time before the women’s team competes with the men’s team in terms of popularity. As a result ticket prices for the women’s game are somewhat cheaper than for the men’s games.
In terms of average ticket price, the cheapest friendly will be between the US and Costa Rica’s National Women’s teams. The average ticket price for the game is $103.52. The highest average ticket price for a game is between the men’s team and Peru at RFK Stadium. The average ticket price for the game is $567.45. So there is a huge gulf between ticket prices for the men’s and women’s teams.
The most popular friendly however, is expected to be Argentina vs. Mexico. Argentina, beaten finalists at the 2014 World Cup, feature a host of super stars, including four time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi and other big names like Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria and Javier Mascherano.
Fans will turn out in huge numbers to watch this game, which is why it has the lowest get in price among all the games. The get in price for the game is $30, while ticket prices go up to $21,550.
Samba Stars to play two international friendlies in the United States this year
A few more international friendlies have been announced for 2015 that will be hosted in the United States. The biggest draw has to be the United States versus Brazil. The Samba boys are a draw where ever they play in the world, so expect a packed Gillette stadium for this one. The get in price for this game is $57, while the average ticket is $143.27.
Brazil also have a game against Costa Rica at the Red Bull Stadium. Both sides looked good at the World Cup 2014, so this should be another intriguing contest. The average ticket price for the game is $227.28, while the get in price is a cool $68.
