He won “Clayton Idol” at the Clayton Harvest Festival in Clayton. As a teenager, he was one of the 36 finalists in the contest “Rip the Hallways”. In 2009, he performed in a talent show in Caswell Youth Retreat singing Josh Kumar’s Long Black Train. He auditioned for American Idol when he was 16. His country twang and deep baritone vocals won hearts of audience as well as of judges. He remained in the competition throughout, performed his best that inspired everyone watching the show and finally won the competition in May 2011.
