Rascal Flatts’sConcert & Tour History
At every point in their creative careers, successful musicians tend to question the direction of their musical output, & strive to experiment with a different genre to branch out to a wider audience. It takes flexibility & immense vocal & instrumental prowess to successfully create a crossover hit. The decade’s top-selling & most awarded country group, Rascal Flatts, has, however, made it their forte. The golden trio of Gary LeVox (lead vocals), Jay DeMarcus (vocals, bass, keyboard) & Joe Don Rooney (vocals, lead guitar) has consolidated its lofty status in musical circles with successful forays into adult contemporary music while belting out their trademark country chart-toppers. A huge vocal fan base has ensured Rascal Flatts tickets sell out at the earliest possible opportunity for their swashbuckling tours. A staggering record of over 40 trophies & 25 million album sales speaks volumes of the band’s consistency. Rascal Flatts has completed a decade making mind-blowing music, & the magic doesn’t show signs of letting up.
Second cousins Gary LeVox & Jay DeMarcus were the epicenter of the band’s formation. Belonging to a musical family obviously helped with orientation, & DeMarcus was the more active of the two, scooping up a record deal as part of a Christian group, East to West, in Nashville. LeVox finally gave in to the incessant chiding of his cousin & also took up work as keyboardist for country star Chely Wright. The two played often at gigs in the late 90s. A fortuitous chance brought them together with Joe Don Rooney, when their usual guitarist failed to turn up during a gig at Printer’s Alley in Lufkin, Texas, & Rooney (a guitarist for Wright) filled in. The crowd’s response was fantastic & the name Rascal Flatts was suggested by an onlooker.
The trio signed to Lyric Street Records in 1999 & produced their debut single “Prayin’ for Daylight” in 2000. It was an unprecedented smash hit, ushering in their debut self-titled album to magnanimous applause from all quarters. Their second effort, 2002’s Melt, also yielded a couple of chart-toppers. With the sensational success of Feels like Today, Rascal Flatts were ready for a crossover experiment. “What Hurts the Most” was met with stupendous success & elevated their next album, Me & My Gang, to a whole new level. In 2006, Rascal Flatts widened their horizons to sing for Pixar’s animation Cars. Still Feels Good kept the magic going & after a greatest hits compilation, Rascal Flatts launched their sixth studio album, Unstoppable. With great commercial success, the band has moved forward to a new record label, Big Machine Records, & plan to launch Nothing Like This in November 2010.
Through the course of its sparkling career, Rascal Flatts has launched twenty-seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 Country singles, including 10 #1s. Rascal Flatts scored 4 Top Ten hits, including “Prayin’ for Daylight” & “I’m Movin’ On” (#4) to launch their career in earnest. Its 2xPlatinum certification was bettered by Melt’s 3xPlatinum record, soaring on the basis of their first two #1s, “These Days” & “Mayberry”. The tone had been set for their biggest two releases, Feels like Today & Me & My Gang, which each received 5xPlatinum certification. For the former, “Bless the Broken Road” (their longest-running #1 at five weeks) & “Fast Cars & Freedom” touched the summit, while “What Hurts the Most” (which also topped the Adult Contemporary Charts), “Stand” & “My Wish” reached #1 for the latter album. 2007’s double platinum Still Feels Good spawned the #1s “Here” & “Take me there”. Rascal Flatts’ latest platinum certified album Unstoppable gave rise to the chartbuster “Here Comes Goodbye”, & they have already received a great response to the leading single of their upcoming album. Rascal Flatts has scooped up over 40 ACM, CMA & People’s Choice Awards over the decade.
Fans with Rascal Flatts tickets have been fed with a staple diet of sensational ballads over the years. The consistency is simply outstanding, & apart from touring for each of their albums, Rascal Flatts has also performed live with Joe Dee Messina, Kenny Chesney & Brooks & Dunn on tour. Kelly Pickler & Chris Young will open for the Nothing Like This Tour as it rages on through September.
Following their Las Vegas residency, the popular country music trio, Rascal Flatts, are now embarking on their thirteenth headlining tour. The Riot Tour 2015 takes its name from the third single from the group’s latest album, Rewind. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart, while the title song from the album reached the fourth place on the Hot Country Songs chart. Recently, the “Life is a Highway” singers launched the music video for their latest single, “Riot”. Country music stars Scott McCreery, Rae Lynn, Ashley Monroe and Rick Springfield will serve as opening acts for the tour that will include concerts at Shaky Boots Festival, Carolina Country Music Festival and Country Rock and Rewind Festival among others.
