About the Band – Bikini Kill
Reuniting after 22 years in 2019, Bikini Kill made their mark early on in the 90s through their fierce performances. The band’s hardcore punk style featured fast, loud, and abrasive melodies as the unleashed truths about feminism and female experience. Emboldening women empowerment, Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox, Tobi Vail, and Billy Karren, who later parted ways with the band, made their voices heard. Honored as the riot grrrl band, Bikini Kill released five albums in their storied career and while they continue to perform live, the girls have no plans of creating any new music, yet. Picking off from where they left, the trio continues with punk activism and urge the females in the crowd to “dare you to be who you want”. One of the most talented and visceral punk bands is ready to bring the house down on their Reunion Tour 2023.
Bikini Kill – Riot Grrrl Pioneers
Originating on the early 90s, riot grrrl genre highlights the underground feminist punk movement. Touching upon sensitive topics like abuse, rape, anarchism, domestic violence, classism, and racism, Bikini Kill is among the pioneers of the style. They inspired many other females to join the punk movement and etched their name in the “most vital rock-n-roll of the era” list. Following disbandment in 1997, the girls have once again joined forces, minus Billy Karren, and are ready to create havoc on stage. Bikini Kill have announced a rescheduled run of North American dates that will now officially begin in March 2023.
