The last decade has seen both sides throw up some really close encounters between them. For three years, between 2008 and 2010 they posted nine wins apiece, highlighting the balance in quality. Since then they have been alternating each year, with the Yankees posting a better head to head ratio in 2012 and 2014 with the Red Sox returning the favor in 2011 and 2013.

The last few seasons have been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for the Red Sox with the team alternating between the highs of winning the World Series and the lows of failing to qualify for the playoffs. The Yankees have fared similarly and for the first time since 1994, they fell short of making it to the playoffs for two consecutive seasons. However, with both teams investing heavily in their squads, this season is expected to be a lot better for both sides.
