Keith Lionel Urban was born in New Zealand on 26th October 1967. He is an Australian country music singer, song writer, and guitarist. He moved to Australia at a very early age and initially became successful in Australia and America. The love for music was in him from the very beginning and he started learning the techniques when he was seven years old and won a number of singing competitions when he was eight years old.
After some years he became known in the Australian country music scene and it was due to his performance in the Reg Lindsay Country Homestead TV Program and also Mike McClellands Music Program. He also performed a duet with Jenny Wilson and won an award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Keith Urban recorded his first solo album in the year 1991. He signed a contract with EMI records and his album was an instant hit as it topped the Country Charts in Germany, Australia and New Zealand. He performed in place of Slim Dust in 1993 on a tour. They became familiar with each other in the mid 1990s and recorded a duet Lights on the Hill and gave his first appearance at the Grand Old Opry.
Urban was appreciated and became known for his outstanding talent from the very start of his career. He went to Nashville, Tennessee in the year 1992 and worked as a guitarist for Brooks & Dunn. He also worked with Alan Jackson in his music video Mercury Blues. In 1997 he made a group called The Ranch that released an album as well. But it did not do well enough and the band was broken in 1998 when he decided to pursue his career as a solo artist. In the year 1999 he worked with Brett Manning till 2001.
Keith Urban found his international success with the solo Somebody Like You. Kenney Chesney, Brooks & Dunn and Martina McBride appreciated his stage presence when he went on tours. His tour Keith Urban Be Here ’04 was sponsored by the country video channel called CMT. The tour had an opening act by the American country singer Katrina Elam. In the year 2005 Urban had an extremely successful tour along with Katrina Elam called Alive in ’05. He was chosen to perform in the Favorites Campaign after performing at the Live 8 Philadelphia concert on 2nd July 2005.
In 2006 Keith Urban set new records with Once in a Lifetime as it became the highest-debuting country single in the 62-year history of Billboard’s country charts. Apart from setting new records and breaking the old ones he also won a number of Guitars Golden. Urban also participated in numerous social activities. He performed at the Al Gore’s Live Earth concert with Alicia Keys which was held all around the world. The main purpose of the concert was to raise world wide awareness about global warming. He toured all around the world to tell people belonging to every country of the world that in order to reduce global warming it is important to use bio- diesel buses. His album Greatest Hits: 18 Kids proved to be his first greatest ever hit collection in the year 2007. In 2010 he recorded another album entitled Get Closer.
