Garth Brooks is one of the biggest names in the music industry and has been for over thirty years. His achievements to date far eclipse those of his contemporaries and have helped him become one of the highest selling artists in the world, with over a hundred and fifty million albums sold around the globe. In the US, only the Beatles have sold more solo albums than him and he has had six albums go on to record diamond level sales in the country.
A Star is Born
Brooks was born in 1962 and it was his parents who encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He honed his talents during the weekly ‘Talent competitions’ held at his house, and by 1984 had started performing publicly as well. Very soon he was offered a recording contract and he released his debut self-titled album in 1989.
To the Very Top
The first album made it to number two on the US country charts and number thirteen on the Billboard charts. It also went on to be certified diamond in the US and since that time he has released a total of nine albums. Of these six have been certified diamond, with the rest recording platinum level sales, while five have topped the Billboard charts and eight have topped the US Country music charts.
