The 3 Dallas Cowboys Players To Look Out For
The Dallas Cowboys have won two of the last three division championships and will be gunning for greater glories this season. The Cowboys had a stellar 2016 regular season as they went 13-3 and during that astonishing run became one of the favorites to go all the way to the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys began their 2016 campaign with a loss against the New York Giants but then went on an eleven game winning run. The Cowboys however faltered at the first step in the playoffs and came up short against the Green Bay Packers 34-31 in the divisional playoffs. The Cowboys have not won the NFC Championship since 1995. That was also the last time they won the Super Bowl. If the Cowboys are to add to that total, these are the 3 Dallas Cowboys players to look out for this season. Because, if they fire, then the Cowboys have a good chance.
Dak Prescott
All eyes will be on Dak Prescott this season. Tony Romo was supposed to be the Cowboys quarterback last term but he got injured during preseason. Prescott was made the Cowboys’ starting QB and that too in his rookie season. There was a lot of pressure on the youngster but he took the ball and ran with it.
Dak Prescott was one of the stars of the 2016 season. He played in all sixteen games and attempted 459 passes, completing 311 of those to record a pass completion percentage of 67.8. He also threw for 3,667 yards and had just four interceptions all through the season. On top of that, he recorded 20 touchdowns and won the Rookie of the Year gong and a selection to the Pro Bowl. Prescott will have to deliver once again to show the world last season was no fluke. If he hits his stride, then there is a big chance the Cowboys will too.
Demarcus Lawrence
DeMarcus joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 in the second round of the NFL Draft. His stint with the franchise did not start well as he broke his foot during a training camp. That put off his start for a while. His rookie season did not go according to the script as he failed to record even a single sack during the regular season. He got off the mark in the postseason though by sacking Matthew Stafford, not once but twice to help the Cowboys win the encounter.
2015 saw him deliver some very good performances. He recorded eight sacks during the campaign playing as a second rusher and it certainly looked as though Lawrence had finally arrived. Things did not however pan out that way in 2016. He missed seven games but looked a shadow of a player he was in 2015.
Now the question is can he regain his 2015 form? This is a very important year for Lawrence because he is into the last year of his contract. If he delivers, he will be in a better position to negotiate with the Cowboys or with any other side, if he decides to move. As far as the Cowboys go, they need him to be fit and on the top of his game because if he performs, the Cowboys will be in a much better place.
La’el Collins
La’el Collins was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent in the year 2015. Now the time has come for him to step up to the plate and show his worth. But in order to do that, Collins will have to get rid of his injury woes. In the two seasons that have gone by, he has missed 17 games due to injuries. That also includes their playoff loss last season against the Green Bay Packers. So, if he is not fit to play a part, then his talent is of no use to the franchise.
He is a right tackle and he has got to replace Doug Free who retired in 2016. Collins have had a disrupted start to life in Dallas and that is why he can be given the benefit of the doubt for his substandard performances in the games that he has played. Football is a result oriented business now and if Collins does not show the talent that everyone knows he has, then the Cowboys might not wait too long and go for another player in his position.
The current season is a very important one for the Cowboys and these are the 3 Dallas Cowboys players to look out for this season if the franchise has to achieve something in 2017.
